Getting Started

How do I add my first Soldier?
From the Formation Roster, tap the gold + button in the lower right. Fill in rank, name, and MOS at minimum. Other fields can be completed later. New Soldiers appear in the roster immediately with a green status stripe.
What if I don't know a Soldier's DOR or ETS?
Leave those fields blank. You can update them later by tapping the Soldier and editing the Personal Data tab. Most dates can be looked up from your Soldier's iPERMS or from unit admin.
Can I import my existing leader's book?
Not automatically — there is no standard digital format for leader's books. The fastest way is to add each Soldier manually, then use the Quick Note feature to capture what you already know about them. This takes about 30 seconds per Soldier.

Counseling & AI

How does AI counseling generation work?
On a Soldier's Counseling tab, tap Generate. Pick counseling type and date range. The app sends your notes (with all PII stripped) to Claude, which returns a draft in AR 25-50 voice. You review, edit, and save. Every draft is a starting point — you sign the final version.
What's in a good note for AI generation?
What happened + the outcome. Example: "Completed HMMWV licensing course, passed written and practical tests." Not: "Good Soldier." The AI needs observable behavior and results to write meaningful bullets.
Can I edit the AI draft?
Yes. Every section is editable inline. You can also regenerate individual sections if you don't like the output. The final signed version is whatever you saved — the AI is a drafting tool, not a ghostwriter.

Data & Backup

How do I back up my data?
Settings → Export Backup. The app creates an encrypted .lbbackup file you can save to Google Drive, USB, or wherever you keep files. The backup is encrypted with the same key as your local database — no one can read it without your PIN.
What happens if I lose my phone?
If you have a recent backup, install Leaders Book on your new device and use Import Backup. If you don't have a backup, the data is lost — we have no copy. The upside: whoever found your phone cannot read your Soldier data because it's encrypted with your PIN.
Can I move my data between phone and Windows?
Yes, through the export/import flow. Export on one device, transfer the file, import on the other. Automatic sync between devices is planned as a future paid tier but is not part of v1.

Windows Install

Where is the direct Windows installer?
Windows installer hosting is being finalized. Contact support@leadersbook.app and we will send the current signed installer and setup steps.

Subscription & Billing

How does the free trial work?
30 days full access, no credit card required. On day 30 the app prompts you to subscribe. If you don't, the app enters read-only mode — you can still view and export your data, but you can't add or edit. Subscribe at any time to reactivate.
How do I cancel?
Settings → Subscription → Manage. For Android purchases this redirects to Google Play subscription management. For Windows purchases, to your Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
